continuing your child's musical journey
Continuing a deaf or hard of hearing child’s music education, our next step in the Music to My Ears (MTME) program is instrument lessons for children ages four and above. From ukulele to piano and percussive instruments the Foundation’s goal is to deliver high quality music education programming. For every student that discovers an aptitude for music, scores of others develop habits of mind and behavior. Music classes facilitate self-discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and empathy that enhance our students’ social-emotional learning and serve them throughout their lives.
INDIVIDUAL & GROUP INSTRUMENT CLASSES (AGES 4-12)
For children who are interested in continuing their music journey, the MTME Instrument Program provides a year of tuition-free instruction. This program includes both small group lessons along with a weekly private lesson to ensure our children are getting the one on one attention they deserve to foster their success. Whether the deaf or hard of hearing child would like to take piano, guitar or drums lessons, be a part of a rock band, or do musical theatre, our partner schools Merit, Old Town, Music Makers of Western Springs, Encore Music Academy or School or Rock have classes at the entry level up to expert (and Conservatory at Merit). The MTME students will be placed in the age and level appropriate group with key supports along the way to give them every opportunity to be successful in their musical journey.
THE POWER OF CLASSES
“Emma has been taking music classes through FHSR’s scholarship program. She is in her first year of preschool and she also does virtual hearing therapy 1 day a week which has been really helpful in navigating the new listening environments at school.
Emma started virtual piano lessons this spring and she’s really liking it so far! Emma’s teacher tells me she is doing great and is already on par with her second year peers, which I wasn’t surprised about but really proud to hear.
The hearing therapist said she has been trying to figure out how Emma has developed such concise and eloquent speech at such a young age with the added complication of hearing loss and that learning about her involvement in music helps connect the dots! I haven’t really put the two together in that way before, but I am endlessly grateful for the access to music and language that you and your program have given her and our family.”
MTME INDIVIDUAL & GROUP INSTRUMENT CLASS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Music To My Ears INDIVIDUAL & GROUP INSTRUMENT CLASS Program allows all children, regardless of financial need, to attend small group instrument lessons along with a weekly private lesson on the instrument of their choice.
The scholarship provides one year of tuition-free music classes to (up to 12 years of age) who are deaf or hard of hearing and living in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
A $900 donation will sponsor a year of classes for one deaf or hard of hearing child. This amount will allow children who might not otherwise be able to afford music enrichment classes to attend weekly music classes and experience the joy of music with their hearing peers.
FHSR is excited to welcome Laurie Berkner, a nationally beloved children’s music artist once again as our Cheers for Ears entertainment.
Laurie shares her talent with audiences all over the world through her YouTube channel and you can check out our full concert by clicking the below link.
