FHSR is planning a fantastic evening event on Saturday, April 6th. Join us as we Rock the Town for Hearing with a concert featuring singer-songwriter Marshall Crenshaw, backed by roots rockers The Bottle Rockets. A portion of the ticket sales and all donations from this event will go towards funding the FHSR Music to My Ears Scholarship Fund – celebrating our 60th anniversary & the joy of music for children with hearing loss.
About the cause:
FHSR is proud to partner with The Old Town School of Music and Merit School of Music to create this unique opportunity for deaf and hard of hearing children. The Scholarship will provide one year of tuition-free early childhood music classes to children (ages birth–four) who are deaf and hard of hearing living in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
Research has shown the benefits of exposing children to music in early childhood. These benefits are increased for a child with hearing loss. From language acquisition to gaining a feel for sentence structure, inflection and tone, exposure to music provides indelible positive benefits.
About the performance:
Singer and songwriting master Marshall Crenshaw has roots in classic soul music and British Invasion songcraft. He is perhaps best known for his Top 40 classic “Someday, Someway,” but is also a noted guitarist who uses off-beat chord progressions and concise solos.
Crenshaw will be backed by the Bottle Rockets, who will also open the evening with a set of their own.
About the event:
The event will take place on Saturday, April 6th at the Old Town School of Folk Music, 4544 North Lincoln Avenue, Chicago. Cocktail reception begins at 6:30pm with the concert beginning at 8:00pm. Please visit our ticket sales website to purchase tickets. Tickets include drinks, hors d’oeuvres & food stations.
The FHSR is proud to foster the love of music in children’s lives. A $900 donation will sponsor a year of classes for one deaf or hard of hearing child. For individuals or businesses interested in supporting this meaningful event with a donation of any amount, please contact us at [email protected].
We hope to see you in April at Rock the Town for Hearing!
