From music enrichment and therapy to educational advocacy, early literacy resources, and free family events, we provide support tailored to individual needs while creating opportunities for connection, understanding, and belonging. And we make every one of these services available to families and schools at no cost, because every child deserves the chance to thrive, and no family should have to navigate this journey alone.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

FHSR's Free Family Events bring DHH children and their families together to build community and reduce the stigma of hearing loss and hearing tech. A $50 donation sponsors a family of four's attendance and helps provide snacks and crafts to enjoy.

BOOK SCHOLARSHIPS

Deaf and hard of hearing children rarely see themselves represented what they read. Our unique EARs Book Scholarship allows parents to choose four titles from our vetted list of books featuring characters with hearing loss. $100 covers a scholarship for one child for one year, including postage.

1:1 EDUCATION COUNSELING

Children with hearing loss need special accommodations to succeed in the classroom - and up to 60% of them have an additional disability that affects their learning. Dr. Anna Tess, FHSR's Education Coordinator, provides individualized counseling to help families and educators create the conditions that help DHH kids thrive in the classroom and beyond.

LOANER HEARING TECH

When kids come to school with dead batteries in their implants or broken tubing in their hearing aids, they can't participate in the school day - and their safety is at risk when they can't hear. FHSR provides loaner hearing tech boxes to school audiologists so kids can charge or replace batteries and rejoin the classroom. $500 allows us to supply an additional school with the tech kids need.

MUSIC THERAPY

$1,000 provides a kid like Marwa, our 2026 Champion Child, with twelve weeks of FHSR's Music Therapy program where they can work on their communication, pre-literacy skills and self-esteem in a fun, musical environment. FHSR's program is the only one of its kind in Illinois -- your donation will allow us to offer it to all families, regardless of their ability to pay.

LITERACY & LEARNING SUPPORT

FHSR partners with families and educators to provide the training, resources, and evidence-based curricula that help deaf and hard of hearing children build strong literacy skills. From family literacy workshops for parents of young children to ASL-based literacy curricula in DHH classrooms, your support empowers children to become confident readers and equips the families and educators who guide them along the way.
