About Us
The Foundation for Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation (FHSR) strives to assure that individuals with hearing and communication disorders have the opportunity to develop to their full potential, enjoy the same social and educational opportunities as their peers, and lead healthy and fulfilling lives. We accomplish this important purpose by identifying and then raising the funds to support the most innovative clinical, research, and training programs in America.
FHSR History
The Foundation was established in the early 1950’s by a group of parents and professionals seeking to help deaf individuals. Housed at the Michael Reese Siegel Institute, the FHSR funded pioneering interdisciplinary clinical services for individuals with hearing and speech disorders. It also provided seed money for a series of young medical researchers who are today recognized throughout the world as some of the leading researchers in the hearing and speech sciences.
