How We Make An Impact
Expanding Access & Inclusion
for All Learners.
FHSR is working to make sure no deaf or hard of hearing child in Illinois is without the tools they need to succeed in school. To achieve that goal, the FHSR Education Coordinator offers a unique, personalized resource to help deaf and hard of hearing (DHH) students thrive in the classroom and beyond. The Education Coordinator partners with families living with pediatric hearing loss and the educators who serve them.

Registration open
2027 Music therapy
Based on the groundbreaking work of Dr. Kate Gfeller, FHSR’s tuition-free Music Therapy is designed specifically for children living with hearing loss.
Our 2027 session will run from January 10 to April 10, with classes offered in two convenient suburban locations in Western Springs and Arlington Heights.
Board-certified music therapists from Prospect Music Therapy use FHSR's curriculum to provide musical experiences that are accessible to kids with a variety of hearing profiles. By offering therapy in a small group setting, therapists are able to establish accommodations, and take an individualized approach to each child – so everyone in the session reaches their potential – while also having fun!

family literacy workshop
February 27, 2027
FHSR is partnering with Dr. Stacey Tucci, a nationally-recognized educator and expert on literacy for DHH kids, and the expert behind Foundations for Literacy, one of the only evidence-based literacy curriculums designed specifically for how DHH kids read. On February 27, Dr. Tucci will lead a half-day workshop exclusively for FHSR families.
Childcare will be provided during the workshop for DHH kids and their siblings. The workshop will be held at Child’s Voice School in Wood Dale, where there is ample parking and space for families to join.
